Offered here is a pair of porcelain Japanese 'dove' roof ornaments.  Circa 1920, these white winged doves graced Japanese temples and homes.
The red colorant on each's base is the result of approximately 20-40 years contact with iron oxide in low fire roofing tiles.  Over 70 years ago, they attached to the eave with a curved metal bracket - the doves had been in place till a collector removed them and brought them to market.  One bracket mount is still inside one.
The doves were not intended for international sale, which is evidenced by lack of English stamp only with the maker's stamp present on each figure's base.
The stamp is tiny and has low impression.  These doves can again be used outside over a door way or roof but I think they look best displayed on a table or next to a crystal ball.   Mint condition, pre-war Japanese.  11 inches wide 8 inches tall.  There is a pair of doves similar to these in my favorite decorating book Furlow Gatewood "One Man's Folly"
